Course Overview/Description:
A generic policy that can be tailored and used to meet the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) requirements regarding disclosure of protected health information (PHI).
Objectives:
Defines what protected health information is and describes organization and plan responsibilities with regard to protecting this information as dictated by federal law. This document also explains under what conditions the organization may release or disclose protected health information. Reviews employees' rights and how to file a complaint. Please note the civil rights bureau identified is for New York state and this would be substituted for other state civil rights offices as appropriate. This policy uses the term "the company"- you may replace this with your organization's name.
